Title: Happy Birthday AE_collector
Post by: Wallphone on May 13, 2011, 05:35:19 PM
I got an inside scoop that today is AE_collector's (Terry B) birthday. Even though he could drink some good Canadian beer for his birthday he said that he wanted to try something different this year, so he went to Germany to try out some of that stuff. Although I have never met Terry personally we have been friends for about five years. Among many other contributions including being an AE expert, Terry puts together the labor intensive eBay Handles list every year. Terry has been having trouble logging on to the Forum from Germany but I think that he can still read the postings. Happy Birthday Terry and have a great trip in Europe. Maybe once you get on the Cruise Ship you will be able to log on.
Cheers,
Doug Pav

As the middle man, Terry says THANKS for all the birthday wishes, he really appreciates it and was bummed that he couldn't log on to tell you himself, but he'll be back on (from somewhere). Tonight is the reception for his Daughter's wedding and then tomorrow it is on to Italy to jump on a ship. He couldn't send me an attachment but this is what his Daughter's new Uncle-in-Law's car looks like. He said that he was drooling a lot of German beer just looking at it. OK, I made some things up.

HI EVERYONE:

I'm on the cruise ship finally and have managed to post on the forum again. Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone.

Yes I had some German beer and still have quite a few to go through over the next 12 days before returning home.

I'm still battling with my laptop which won't let me log onto the forum but am successful using one of the cruise ships computers. I think I'll blow away the cookies in my laptop and see if that fixes things up.

*** Its Terry's Birthday - Can't Fall off the Radar Again! ***

Happy Birthday, Terry! Looks as though you had no birthdays from 2011 until 2015, so how about it, guys. Wish Terry a happy birthday today so it can be a birthday for him to remember!

He's not getting older - he merely stalled for a few years!

If it weren't for Facebook reminding me, I would have forgotten it this year, too!

Hey thanks Dave and all of you other "CRPF-ites" for the birthday wishes! My birthdays and I have managed to fly under the radar for the last several years. Unfortunately I DO feel at least four years older than my "last birthday" back in 2011. Maybe one pays a penalty for trying to not have birthdays.

My retired work buds and I frequently meet at the local McD's for coffee and occasionally for lunch. I have invited them all to meet for lunch today and told them that I am buying (along with the help of a pack of discount coupons that arrived in the mail the other day). So far no one has asked why I am buying and I will see if I can get through the day without having to reveal why.

Notice below, I now have the radar repaired and optimized for low flight, so you won't be able to slip "under the radar" again!

Hope your dinner with your retired work Buds went well at McD's or wherever you ended up having it!

Possibly the first three hour lunch at McD's in world history! So much chatting to catch up on.

Then I picked up Chinese for dinner at home.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes. I see that the radar passed security checks yet pictures of phones not so much!

Hey thanks guys! It was a good birthday here but then again it was only #59....already not particularly looking forward to next year's milestone. We are on our final cruise day arriving home at Vancouver tomorrow morning but we had all day in Victoria today which is the capital city of British Columbia. We come here at least once a year to hit the antique stores and visit friends.

It was a beautiful mid 70's sunny day with nothing but blue sky. We walked quite a few miles and had lunch at a real neat old pub that we have been to before. Then we had to get back to the ship for dinner at 5:30 PM even though the ship doesn't leave for Vancouver until midnight.

We had a bit of a phone collectors conference at the pub as besides myself and my wife Kim and our travelling friends we also had phone collector Gary Goff from California, and Wayne Sugden from Vancouver (who are both on the cruise with us along with their wives) and Victoria area phone collector Mark Aitken met us at the pub as well. I will post a picture when I get home. Oh and Remco checked in by telephone from California.

I know I could have worked for the Telco longer and do somewhat miss the work and people but it was time and they were throwing around cash to get rid of some people so the timing was perfect for me. We wanted to travel more and have certainly been accomplishing that.

Oh, and Friday the 13th....happens on my birthday quite often as does Mothers Day as well. Mothers Day is the second Sunday in May so can be anywhere from May 8 to 14 so every so often it and my birthday are on the same day.

Thanks again and back to reality in the morning.

Terry

Here is the picture of "the Phone Collectors" at my birthday lunch at the Bard & Banker pub in Victoria BC:

From the left to right:
Mark Aitken, Gary Goff, Wayne Sugden & Terry Biddlecombe

Oh what the heck...there is room for 5 more pictures in this post still:

2 - My Birthday cake at dinner on the ship

3 - Coral Princess docked at Victoria

4 - An antique "Buoy" from the harbour on our walk from ship to downtown Victoria

5 - The famous Empress Hotel at downtown Victoria

6 - the Norwegian Jewel leaving the harbour a few hours before us. Jewel would be completing a Seattle - Alaska round trip with Victoria bring the mandatory "Foreign Port" stop. We didn't leave until about midnight as we could easily get to Vancouver from Victoria in about three or four hours.

Happy Birthday, Terry! I still use that Ebay Handles List all the time, but now they've changed the code names again, as you've no doubt noticed. I found on eBay you can click on the new name and it shows the old one! I'm sure they will fix that in no time. Anyway, I appreciate your efforts on the list. It's a valuable resource.

Hey thanks everyone. I see that Dave's "Birthday Radar" is still working just fine!

I'm not sure why we always seem to be on a cruise ship around my birthday but we were again this year just like last year. Except this year we arrived home at Canada Place pier on my birthday instead of the day after like last year. Therefore we were unceremoniously "tossed" from the ship on my 60th birthday...and we're such good customers of Princess too. I'm sure they would have asked if we wanted a complimentary 7 day round trip cruise to Alaska so that we could stay onboard had they only known it was my 60th birthday.

This was one of our longer cruises but not the longest. 32 days onboard and we were away for 40 days in total. At the beginning we did a 6 hour flight to Hawaii and stayed at Waikiki Beach for three nights to break up the 15-16 hour flight from Vancouver to Sydney Australia. Then a 10 hour flight to Sydney where we stayed for 5 more nights. This was our first time down under! We loved Australia though we only saw Sydney and the surrounding area.

Then we boarded Emerald Princess at Sydney on April 12 and we were off to New Zealand. We had stops at Wellington, Napier, Tauranga and Auckland. All were great though Napier was our favourite. It is known as the "Art Deco City". An earthquake destroyed the city in the early 1930's and it was completely rebuilt in the popular Art Deco style of the day. They have done a great job of preserving it against modern redevelopement.

Once leaving New Zealand we crossed the date line so we had two April 20'ths. We headed north east to American Samoa - Pago Pago (pronounced Pango Pango). Next we continued north east to French Polynesia where we had stops at Tahiti, Mo'orea and Bora Bora. All places of incredible scenery. Until French Polynesia these stops were all new to us but we were at FP on a cruise in 2014. As we sailed away we had 5 sea days straight north, across the Equator to Hilo Hawaii and then Honolulu the next day. Our first trip that included two completely separate visits to Hawaii (including the three day lay over as we headed to Sydney). At Honolulu we visited Pearl Harbour and the Arizona Memorial which we hadn't done since about 1980. Five more sea days to Los Angeles for the day where we toured the USS Iowa which is now permanently docked at San Pedro a short walk from where we were docked. Our dick incidently is the exact same one where Pacific Princess docked every week on "the Love Boat". On our way once again it was a short three day non stop cruise to Vancouver where we arrived yesterday morning.

A great trip all in all taking us to several new (to us) parts of the world. It all helped me forget about my 60th birthday just a little bit!

Thanks again for the Birthday wishes everyone!

Terry

Wow...thanks guys! Not a milestone birthday this year thank goodness....that was last year so I'm good for awhile now.

It's a perfect day in Vancouver today and at dinner time we pack our bags and head for Maui. As long as the volcano on the neighbouring island doesn't get too out of control we should have a great holiday.

Just kidding of course...thanks again everyone. I have two weeks in Kihei Maui Hawaii to get over the trauma now.

My daughter sent me a weather report from home to compare to Hawaii...Vancouver 29C/84F and nothing but sun. Maui 79F/26C Sun, cloud, wind and rain. Have I got good timing or what!
