The phone appears to come with original cords even.  I am peeking at the 4-prong connector, and am wondering if that still is a 283A, the predecessor to the B version.   It appears to be a dash 9 color.  I still have not figured out at which time the transition occurred. Perhaps someone with a no. 10 catalog might be able to tell.

Thanks David, so this puts the transition from 283A to 283B between the dates of the no. 9 and 10 catalogs, 1935-1939.

The 1935 WE catalog No. 9 specifies that 283A type plugs were furnished with 202 desk sets upon order with a D4T type cord of corresponding color. Standard issue color was D4T-9 and 283A-3 plug.
In 1950 the same colors were specified in the No. 11 catalog, as you quote from No. 10 of 1939: -4, -6, -9, used with cords D2E, D3AM, D3AP, D4W, D4AJ.

So that plug on the cord of this nice old 1939-1940 rose-colored set is most likely a 283B.

I spoke with the seller today and he doesn't really want to sell it to me.  He had an offer of $80 from someone in Illinois, but he doesn't want to ship it, and another offer from someone local, but he keeps telling me that he is in no hurry to sell it.
