I have a plastic 400 series (6 button) phone that has turned a whitish color.
Is it mold/fungus? How do you clean it up?

I would try dishwashing liquid soap and warm water.

What Bill said, or what I do is take all the non-electrical parts and put them in a bath of Oxiclean.  If any metal non-electrical parts are rusty, I put them in a bath of CLR.  http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=3039.0
The idea that a four-year degree is the only path to worthwhile knowledge is insane.

The plastic is tenite which is made from wood, so it grows mold.  Chlorine bleach should kill the mold.

I cleaned the phone with Clorox spray cleaner. It took the mld right off,  The I rinsed it real good and then Turtle Waxed it. Came out real nice for me.-Howard

Ive had good luck with chlorine bleach/water mixture (soaking) too followed by polishing with Novus2.  The bleach should kill the mold.

I JUST got done cleaning an Automatic Electric 1964 model and I used distilled vinegar and water.

I am guessing it is black mold?

The vinegar loosens and kills the mold.

The cord will take time, and make sure to let the cords soak and dry completely!

Best of luck!
