Making a Switchboard Lamp Operational on AC

Anyone know if this can be done. This is in just amazing shape and it sits in a closet. Will this work on AC or is it a much lower voltage but out from the switchboard...thanks...Doug

Nice, Doug.

Check the fixture and bulb for part numbers and look them up in the TCI Library.

For example, a similar fixture is listed in BSP 074-235-109-i3...

KS-14762, Ll, L2, and L3: The KS-14762,
Ll, L2, and L3, portable lamp tools are intended
to clamp on racks, frames, or switchboards
and operate from central office battery. The tools are
designed to use high candle power, sealed beam
lamps KS-16196, L2, (24V) or KS-16197, L2, (48V),
which must be ordered separately.


Plan B: You could always put it on a variable transformer and gradually bring up the voltage.

That operates on central office DC voltage. 49v to todays slightly higher voltage of around 51vdc.

All Lightbulbs are rated for AC/DC usage. The difference is that DC allows for the filament to last longer because the current is flowing in 1 direction only, AC cause the filament to vibrate more and wears it down faster. the other concern is the availibility of the bulb itself. can it be easily replaced through normal channels....

You can get 12v AC, and 120v DC, the AC and DC parts refer to the type of supply, AC being Alternating Current, and DC being Direct Current, the voltage can be anything on either... :)
