I saw this on ebay and loved the handset cord, then the bands. Looked like an AE. I got it today and it is not black,,,,a deep reddish brown.

Press for silence release to speak. I will bring this to brass later. Kind of a cool Headset. Is it an AE?

Last pick is compared to a black Ericcson, Its not black....Doug

Likely Mahogany if the red tint is obvious but otherwise could be Walnut. As such, the band's could be gold matte plated so be certain they aren't before getting the steel wool out. Bill Dyck (Dycom there on the forum) had a big search to find a mahogany handset to restore his AE Admirals switchboard (Type D?) but I don't know that they have the gold bands or PTT button. Would seem like a logical place to use a PTT handset though.

Oh and yes...the PTT AE handset is a little different shape than the regular type 41 handset. Not certain why that is.

It looks like an AE type 27 handset but these were also built by American Microphone co LA for the military.I think yours is AE though.
