I figured that was the problem.  I was going to wait until next spring, but tried it anyway.  Now the rain has beaten down the plants.
The idea that a four-year degree is the only path to worthwhile knowledge is insane.

I came across an article online that said that they don't produce in containers more than 8" deep.  They'll grow, but just won't produce any pea pods.  I planted mine in a standard 12" cedar container.  I thought I bookmarked the article, but now I can't find it.
