New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed about 4 hours ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve starting at $10.00 ( with thanks to WEBellSystemChristian for the heads up on this auction ) is what appears to be very nice 1955 Rose Beige WE 500 with a straight gray handset cord and a black line cord with 4 prong connector. The seller provided a good array of photos and the internal and bottom show what may be a little water damage. Within the first hour of being listed, the phone attracted 4 buyers upping the starting bid to a whopping $22.21. It's another WE 500 to find out who best knows what this item will sell for when the auction ends?

NOTE: We will use a $5 gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "Vintage Dark / Rose Beige Soft Plastic Western Electric 500 Rotary Desk Phone" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying "Rose Beige Soft Plastic Western Electric 500 Rotary Desk Phone -- Phone appears to have gotten wet in the past. There is some rust and corrosion on the chassis (see photo #9). The dial mechanism is rusty and does not turn (see photo #8). Phone rings and receives calls. -- Phone has dark grey straight handset cord and black line cord with 283B 4-pin plug. Insulation on line cord conductors is degrading. -- Plastic has discolored a bit to a warmer color, more so in some areas than others, see photo #4. There is some paint on the handset , handset cord, and base housing. Handset has small dents / gouges, see photo #3. Housing has scuffs and scratches. No cracks or chips in housing. Phone was stored in a basement and smells musty. Clear cover for dial number card is missing. -- Dates include:  Base: 12-55;  Housing: 12-3-55;  7C Dial: 12-55;  Ringer: 12-55;  Network: 12-55;  Handset: 12-55;  Receiver element: 12-16-55;  Transmitter element: 12-16-55;  Handset cord: IV 55;  Line cord: 56 "

My rookie stripe is showing on this one. As Teleplay said above, this is indeed a "guess"...we shall see how "lucky" it turns out to be:

I didn't like it initially, but pictures don't do it justice. In person, an unfaded set is really quite nice. I think they do fade badly though.
