This is an item from the bottom of a box in an auction lot of phone parts I found after bringing the box home. It is a Space Saver with prominent vermillion front markings that remind me of Northern Electric base marks on 302's I have had.  It is inside dated 1955.  The top of this manual phone has a turn knob rather than a dial blank.  The knob looks to be on a potentiometer with several resistors on its contacts,  The cut line cords have multiple lines.  Any ideas out there? What could adjusting the knob change on turning?

I expanded the wires and connection and think I found the following:

1. a Motorola wax coated capacitor between B and Bk labeled 0.01MFD
2. a 120 ohm resistor between GN and BK
3. a small 30? ohm resistor between Y and a black external cord
4. Three resistors up at the three pole switch/potentiometer 10-38 ohm?
5. Thick Cloth covered line and maybe receiver cords cut ends with 5 wires.

The low resistors and capacitors make me think of a radio application rather than phone. I am not too good at reading these old colors but the connections look original and not tinkered with.

With a Motorola branded capacitor, I would wager it is indeed a radio system assembly.  When I worked in a Motorola repair shop there was a silver book that had listings for many of the equipment types used in radio installations.  That would be the reference work you'd need.
