Anybody here also into phonographs?
I have a couple Edison Diamond Disc players. The Chippendale and the upright Hepplewhite. I used to have an Amberola 30 in an upright Babson cabinet, but I sold it last year. The only other acoustic machine I have is one of the little suitcase portables branded "The Virginian" which was made in Petersburg, Va in the 1920s. The rest of my phonos are electric, and I have too many of them.

I have two, but I'm not a collector. I really only wanted one good working one. Long story, but the first one needs a tone arm and reproducer. It's an off brand called "Avalon" and the tone arm and reproducer were made out of cheap pot metal. It was distorted even on the best records. When I and a local collector tried to "fix" it, the reproducer cracked into pieces.
So I shelled out for a quality Victrola VV XI with a rebuilt Exhibition reproducer and am enjoying it very much. I still have the other one and plan to put a quality Victrola tone arm and reproducer in it.

i have a crosley turnable
All I can say is WOW great looking machines. Been looking for a working model for some time now but all I find in the antique shops are over priced junk. Can't even find a decent turntable that will stack the records.

Try Craigslist instead. But stay away from the off-brands like mine, it will be next to impossible to find parts. The acoustic phonographs only handle one record at a time. You could also try a local antique phonograph collectors club in your area, members often have machines for sale.

I had an L-Door Victrola model VVXVI for many years. I wasn't using it much, it was hard to find a place for it, so I sold it and all of my 78's a couple of years ago.
So what's up with the "Ampico" handle? Are you into player pianos too? If I were ever to own a piano again, I would want an Ampico.
Wish I had an Ampico. Even a Stoddard. Boy, they play great..

My recent trip to Oregon was to the home of a long-time collector. He took me on a tour of his collection. Like a museum. Here's three of them. First one is a military Edison. Second two pics are of one that is autographed by Tetrazzini. Also a link to one that had a puppet that danced as the record played.
