I like it. It serves needed a purpose while looking pretty neat. To my untrained eye it looks like the phone was not harmed. Maybe it is a phone person that had some extra parts.

They certainly went a long way to make a part for the cup. And while it serves a purpose, did they use a repop part to do that? Or did they canabalise a candle stick to get there.
Take a closer look, it's the real deal.
The phone stuff is real. The faceplate and lamp were created.
I wonder if this is someones project while learning machining. Looks like nice enough to be a final project to showcase their skills.

I totally agree with you.
Nicely done compared to others, hopefully the head can come off and it can be returned to it's former glory with no issue, but to me it is an antique phone and should remain as such. Plenty repro candlesticks out there to practice their machining skills on.
