The Ultimate Question: Finger Wheel Nut Orientation

I have always questioned which way the nut faces on WE dials. I have removed them phones both with the flat side and the curved side in. I have assumed it is the flat side, as to better fit the number card curve. But I'm not sure!

But sometimes I have to look really hard to distinguish them.
