Title: Blue Teal Princess Phone - my eBay Offer was Accepted
Post by: SunriseEarth on March 04, 2019, 09:43:50 PM
Hello everyone,

I found a Teal Princess Phone on eBay.   It was listed at $60, but the seller accepted my counteroffer of $45.   Since these usually seem to go for more on eBay (and with free S&H!), I considered this a good deal.

This is my first Princess phone from this era.   The line jack was broken, so I replaced that.   Opening it up, it was very tidy inside compare to older Princess phones and felt noticeably lighter  It's unfortunate that this era didn't include the dial light (and the TT keypad certain feels strange compared to older Princess phones), but this is a fun addition to my Princess collection.

Nice phone - awesome color!  Perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the CS (customer sale) units from this era had no dial light, but the leased units still did.  True?

You are correct.  The CS Models had the opaque/white numbers (no light) with the short-throw Touch Pad, but you could lease one from AT&T with the "classic"  translucent touch pad/light.

I did this when I was in college (86), as I saw the CS models at stores and went "yuck". I went to the AT&T store, leased a red Princess TT and a month later "bought it" from them - and I still have it; it's the red one in my Princess color collection.

I'm guessing that the teal blue was only officially available as a CS model, as I have yet to see one with the classic translucent touch pad-only the opaque white ones.  All other colors I have were lightable, save this one color... (of course now that I've said this, someone will prove me wrong...)

My only complaint about the teal blues were that they yellowed easily...

And that's why I wanted it in my collection, as it is an "unusual" color.   The short-throw TT keypad is a unique feature..that's definitely one way of putting it.  I certainly prefer the classic translucent keypads to the opaque one, and I'd prefer rotary over either TT option.    I wonder if this color was ever offered on rotary sets?

I would agree about the yellowing.   It's noticeable on mine when you get a good look at it, but I think the phone is in good condition overall.

Jim - I too had a lighted TT in that era, but mine was boring beige.  It stayed with me for a while, and I may still have it in a box somewhere.....  They really were nice phones.

I have a 2702BM in "Insipid Ivory".  "Boring Beige" looks better on the 702B, IMHO.

I haven't seen the teal princess in rotary - but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't made.  Once the consumer sales started, I recall most phones you could buy at Sears, Target, etc., were in Touch Tone. At least where I was in Texas (Dallas/Houston/College Station), that's what I remember.

Now that I've found one of every officially known color (save clear), the challenge is to find the unofficial colors...

Nice find on the Teal.  I've always liked that color as my parents have a Teal 83 CS Trimline my Mom bought new in 83. Did all of the CS sets have the short throw keypads? I have a pair of 84 post divestiture AT&T 2500 sets that have them, and they definitely feel different.

It does seem that the Teal color is prone to yellowing/discoloration that turns it kind of green
