I had posted about a recent find of a 51AL candlestick phone at a great price. As I examined my find I saw it had a notched number plate. I thought oh no! a converted #2/4. But a closer look convinced me the finger stop was an original one. The notched number plate was dated 1942. So my thought was that the number plate was a wartime replacement for the worn out original number plate. Being wartime they wouldn't waste a whole dial. My belief was confirmed when I removed the base plate and found stamped in green ink the dates 11/42 and 12/42. Also in green ink was 1-505. Repairman's number or referb center number?
