JKL's 3-slot AUTOVON payphone was made for John by a relative who has a tremendous machine shop and is a master at using his tools.  I have seen this payphone (as well as some of his other creations) in person, and they are truly impressive.

For the record, no manufacturer ever produced any "official" AUTOVON payphones!

Dave, thanks for the clarification. That was quite informative in several ways and from personal experience. They did a really nice job on the red AutoVoN three slot. Would be nice to see images of the other creations from that shop. A collection of those images could be a topic of it's own to both show off the work and to keep the record straight, for posterity.
