A friend of mine brought me this framed ad he found at a yard sale for $5.00 this weekend.

They had some nice advertising.  when I see such ads, I think about the blatting T-Mobile, Verizon and Boost mobile ads on TV.

Yes, the ads were very genteel.  Part of this was the era, but another big factor was Ma Bell's monopoly status with no competition to deal with.  There was no need to market based on price or comparisons in features/value.  Their main advertising goals were to increase usage of their services and maintain a positive image.
