Seller Listing Title: "WATER-CLEAR Automatic Electric Model 40 Telephone"
Condition: "Used"
Condition Qualifier: "This is an original AE40 that is fitted with a Water-Clear body and handset that I cast from water-clear polymer. The 24-carat Gold-Plated hardware was salvaged from a VERY badly shrunken (original) Ivory AE40. Look over the photos closely, and you will see that I have painstakingly fitted this beauty with only the best (original) components"
Listing Description: "WATER-CLEAR -- AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC MODEL AE40 -- The (original AE) 24-carat Gold-Plated hardware was salvaged in 2004 from a VERY badly shrunken (original) Ivory AE40. Started this project quite some time ago, and have been slowly working on it from time to time. This is an original AE40 that I have fitted with a Water-Clear body and handset that I have personally cast from clear polymer in my workshop. -- The gold-plated components are obviously from a rather early example of AE40, since the dial is an "early-ish" model 24A36, and there is no hand-hold to pick the phone up with. -- The AE Extensicord is an original, and is indeed a rather scarce color to come by. Most brown extensicords have a little, red "tracer" thread woven into them; this one is solid "silvery-brown", which I feel goes very well with the Water-Clear AE40. One unique thing about this AE40 is the total absence of a handhold, or "Butler's Handle". -- The extremely unique and original center card (number card) is actually embossed metal, and rather fantastic! Please note that there is a very slight ding in the number card holder, but after looking it over, you too will see that it is not too noticeable."
