New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Just listed in a 7 day auction with no reserve and starting at $9.99 is what appears to be an Ivory Western Electric 302 with a soft center finger wheel and cloth cords. The small front right corner crack seems to indicate this is not a painted phone but with the limited number of photos and information, it's hard to tell exactly what we have here. The seller appears to know little about this item and old phones in general. Within the first hour of being listed, the auction attracted 1 bidder so it will sell. As always, I'm sure this will increase but by how much. So, once again, the question is who will offer a guess closest to the winning bid when the auction ends?

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest. That would be about a 3% gap for this phone and it makes it easier to place your guesses.

The seller listed it as an "Old Bell Systems - Western Electric Ivory Colored Rotary Dial Desk Telephone F1" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " with the auction listing description saying simply "Old Bell System-Western Electric Rotary Dial Desk Telephone F1! This is the heavy old square phone from our childhood. No push button dialing, led screen or contact list. Amaze your children by showing them how we used to dial the phone. This phone has a small crack on the front right corner."

The small front right corner crack seems to indicate this is not a painted phone...

I think that the clear plungers help indicate it's not painted?

Since the clear plungers are hollow, it shows they aren't Ray K. replacement plungers either.

After the regular line of 302s was discontinued in 1954, some 1955 sets made from CAB Tenite have solid clear plungers like Northern Electric appears to have used at times.

But this set clearly was made before 1953.

The home-made number card mask is worse than those that I have fabricated.

Favorite Phone: Western Electric Trimline - it just feels right holding it up to my face!
