My Western Electric Portable Sewing Machine has a much more rounded lid than this one does.

I paid somewhere around $50 or maybe $60 tops for mine at an Antique / Junk Store in Oklahoma

Good catch.  A few days or a week ago, on Ebay, someone posted a Western Electric "massage appliance."  The motor looked like early 20th century, like a fan motor.  This was a respectable device from a time when medical doctors routinely used these on people to treat various muscular conditions.  Today's equivalent would be used in a sports medicine clinic.
