A little over one day into a 10 day auction and this 19th century phone already has 12 bids and is up to $811 after starting at $100.

Just under 6 days left so does anyone have a clue, want to venture a guess?

The phone includes a photo sent by the owner to the New England Company 1972 in a request for the phone's value and the letter from AT&T going into the history of the phone and saying they didn't have a clue as to value.

The seller says: "I got this telephone from my father who pulled it out of the basement of a old jewelry store that was going out of business back in 1970. The framed letter & photo came from AT&T in 1972 when my father sent them a picture of the phone to see what it's value may be. The letter tells all about the Overland Telephone Co. & the photo was the nearest thing that they had to it at the time. They state in the letter that "I can't even give a wild guess to the value of the set" Also in 1883 Bell Telephone brought a suit for patent infringement against Overland & in 1885 Bell won. They also state that not many of these sets can be found today & they said that over 40 years ago. They also go into the history of the Overland Telephone co and so on. This set comes with the second receiver and the letter & photo from Bell dated 9/7/1972."

Holy CARP! Isn't that something!

So it isn't a second receiver but a second transmitter included. Is that a Blake transmitter? If so WoW, I guess more than $811!  I'm going $5700 but in actual fact, I haven't a clue.

Mr. Bones

Please, cut me in at 3750.00... I have no idea, whatsoever, what the actual scarcity, or value of this phone might be... but, that being said, I've won before! ;)

Best regards!

TelePlay (John) is our new "Auction Contest" moderator. Bingster started the Auction Contests but his interests must have changed so he isn't around here much anymore. John said he would take a shot at looking after things in this department so as soon as his application fee check cleared the bank we set him loose here.

Good job so far John and thanks for the help!

It's the "47" in-joke from Voyager, whenever they needed a number for something, it always seemed to end up as "47", like "Shields at 47%", "47 TeraQuads of Data", "LCARS System Terminal 47", etc... :D
