This ebay auction is interesting. As you can see from the bottom it appears to be a field trial. But the shell and dial are empty. It just seems fishy......

It is a phone center display phone. I have a 2500. I have seen the princess style before.
I think they made that display sets  so people wouldn't steal them.

It's definitely not a field trial phone. Just a 701 display model. The field trial phones were functional and had the dimmer switch in the front. There's nothing really fishy about the auction. He doesn't call it a field trial set. It's not exactly what would be called a salesman's sample, but it was made to sell the phone in a display. The seller is correct when he says it was made for display.

The number F-53368 matches other Princess display/sales sets observed. It perfectly fits into the timeline of F-numbers for ca. 1959 to 1960. Pink was also one of the original colors of these sets.
