Remco:

I just googled "european ringing frequency" and found that it is 25 Hz.

There were frequency ringers used in the USA that rang at 25 Hz. I think you may have to trade your straight line ringer for a 25 Hz ringer.  :( :( :(

The following characteristics for the ringing voltage apply:
Frequency: 23 - 27 Hz
Level: 30 - 90 V
Cadence: on: 750 - 1250 ms
off: 3600 - 4400 ms

A SL ringer in a US 300 or 500 set works OK. Those little one coil AE ringers don't seem to work.

I am not certain that a full sized ringer would fit in there though as it is currently a single gong ringer. It might fit but would change the originality of the phone. AE never made single gong ringers in different frequencies. Maybe an electronic ringer would be as good as anything if you really need it to ring.

I finally checked the resistance on one of my single gong AE ringers. It is 5.06K Ohms so presumably your ringer at 6K Ohms is okay.

It would be nice if it would ring but I prefer to keep it original. I have more than enough phones or external ringers that do ring :-)

I might try to fix it again later but for the moment I'll put it on hold because I have more things to do.

Thanks for the input / feedback.

Remco;

You got yourself some nice phones. Need any help with the cords ???
have you seen the 500 since oi finished it.
I would like to give you a Transcontinental call on it sometime, July the 10th happens to be the anniversary of the first Transcontinental phone call. I'll PM and see if I can set up a time to call you.

Somebody already cut the original 3 wire cord of the AE890 :(
I replaced it with a satin silver 4 wire one but it isn't the same.

I haven't seen the 500.

On July 10th I will probably be at home and awake at night because I will be between 2 night shift cycles.
I will have to decide on which phone to answer the call...
