I found a 302 made in July, 1937 at the Maitland, Florida show Saturday. It has serial numbers on many of the parts and a Bell Labs sticker inside instructing the installer/repairman and the WE shop not to make any changes but instead to send it back to Bell Labs.

Sounds very similar to my early 500.
I think these are exceedingly rare, and should hold a special spot somewhere. I would say using the word Unique would not be out of line.

This appears to be in every way a production set and not a prototype. It appears to have all the same parts as any other 302 with small plungers. Only the Bell Labs serial numbers and Form CS-1 stand out so far. And perhaps the 6/37 date for a grooved F-type handset.

Agreed, definetly a Field Trial. My mistake, I could not remember the correct term so pre-production came to mind.

I got to hold it in my hand. I asked "how much for the metal 302??"
Then David opened it up to show me the label and serial numbers.
He also had a clear Trimline on his table with the Orange "F" stamp!

OUCH!! A Flea Market mistake, once it is in your hands never let go of it until you pay for it. OUCH!!!

I am confused was David selling it or buiyng it...Doug

David had just purchased it from another seller earlier that morning. It was not for sale to me but I did not know that when I spotted it on the back of his table. He told me someone else had picked it up, looked at it and decided the price was too high just before he bought it!

Congratulations, David!

I hope you'll be posting photos.

Is there a D- number on it and a wiring diagram inside?  How does it compare to the models here?

I am keeping track of the serial numbers reported.  Other than this, the highest I have so far with a field trial sticker is 1610 dated II 36.

Perhaps this one was part of a test for some of the early production modifications reported on Hal Belden's page:

Congratulations David!

I am super jealous, and I am sure many other people are as well.

Paul, it's a 302, not a D-97464. July '37. No wiring diagram.
