Hi people
Just won this .... can't make out the date but I'm guessing late 70s/ early 80s pre breakup as it's marked as Bell System Property...
Cost £46.50 posted so roughly 58 USD

That one had been listed as a buy it now since beginning Dec. Nice phone, my only concern was the centre handset writing being smoothed out. Please add more photos when it arrives, hopefully others here will be able to throw some light on why.  :)

I am addressing "Smoothed out".
Could be   painted handset/housing  or "buffed out" with a power buffing wheel.
Just some guesses,

The handset appears rather shiny, my guess maybe painted.

. . . IOr run thorught the We hot acetone bath but I doubty it since its a modlular handset. the first crime here is anotyher example of  poor quality pphototgraqphy by a lazy ebay seller. the pixialation of this image do not allow a good guess as to hwat may have happened, oir was doen to this handsetl. I'll go with poaint, the faster aqnd cheaqper alternative to the chemical bath sued by WE in prior years to restore plastic to color and smoothness . . .

Post quality i8amges once you get its so wse can see what was sdone to it.

Yea that table cloth is crazy. The phone looks great in the photos, I think its just the contrast from the phone to the back ground reflecting on the shine of the plastics.

Glad it arrived safely and has gone to a good home.  :)

If I may, here is a close up photo of the handset.
Can anyone read the writing on it, I can't exactly make it out.

Western Electric...
Oddly it was sold as fully working. I plugged it in and it wouldn't ring🤔
On investing the red ringer wire was disconnected and taped...
Buyer beware I guess....

The handset looks like it was painted with polane. That is why it's hard to read the letters, it was probably done by the refurb shops for Bell....Doug

Nice set! The handset has most definetly been painted. But as long as your happy with The finish, fine. But you've done well. And the ringer being disconnected, you found the problem, good deal. The previous owner didn't want it to ring, I see it a lot. A simple fix so it will works out. Nice Job.

Painted or dipped the finish is great ...it's mostly dated 5/79. Will be ordering this after next payday..the adaptor is universal voltage so just need a £1 plug adaptor 🙂
