New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed just over one day ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve starting at $9.99 is what seems to be a September 1950 WE 500 with straight line handset cord and one major issue, a corner crack (see photos). The seller did not provide internal photos but those provided show the phone well. Within the first day of being listed, it attracted 2 buyers placing 2 bids driving the price up to whopping $16.38. I'm sure it will go up but how far is once again the question. So, who best knows what this item will sell for when the auction ends?

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "western electric rotary phone" with the item condition as " - - - " and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying simply "Very nice vintage western electric rotary phone. Has a very small crack on the plastic on the back side of it. Im unable to test the phone because i dont have a landline at home, but I wouldnt see why it would not work, these things were built to last plenty of lifetimes."

Seller added the following information to the listing: "I APOLOGIZE FOR ADDING MORE INFORMATION ON THE PHONE BUT IVE BEEN GETTING SEVERAL INQUIRIES REGARDING THE DATES (SPECIFICALLY IF THEY ALL MATCH THE YEAR 1950) I CAREFULLY DISASSEMBLED THE OUTER SHELL ON THE PHONE. I WANT TO PROVIDE EVERYONE WITH THE MOST ACCURATE INFO THAT I POSSIBLY CAN. SO HERE IS WHAT I FOUND:

1. UNDERSIDE BOTTOM 9-50 AND MODEL 500 (BOTTOM SIDE THAT SAYS LOUD)
2. ROUND CYLINDER BEHIND BELL 9-50 (RED)
3. OUTER SHELL 4-8- AND FOR WHAT WE CAN SEE WITH OUR NAKED EYE AND A HIGH RESOLUTION CAMERA IT APPEARS TO SAY 50, IT IS VERY FAINT ON THE PICTURES BUT YOU CAN SEE IT WITH THE GLARE OF A FLASHLIGHT AND SUNSHINE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THIS PICTURE MESSAGE ME, EBAY WONT ALLOW ME TO REMOVE INITAL PICS TO ADD THIS IMPORTANT PHOTO.
4. UNDER ROTARY DIAL RIGHT SIDE JUNE 23, 1950 HENSE AGAIN 6-23-50
5. UNDER ROTARY DIAL LEFT SIDE BLOCK 6-50 (YELLOW CIRCLED LETTERS)
6. UNDER EAR PIECE 8-50
7. MOUTH PIECE 8-50

EVERY SINGLE YEAR DATE MATCHES THE 1950 YEAR, THAT IS THE MAIN CONCERN FOR THE QUESTIONS IVE BEEN GETTING ON EBAY MESSAGES.  PLEASE KEEP ASKING MORE QUESTIONS AND I WILL CONTINUE TO ANSWER MOST AS BEST AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE MORE PICTURES THAT I COULD NOT UPLOAD BECAUSE EBAY WONT LET ME, PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU WANT TO SEE THEM IN MORE DETAIL. UNDER THE ROTARY DIAL THERE IS ALSO THE WESTERN ELECTRIC LOGO STAMPED. I ALSO WANT TO THANK THE EBAY MEMBERS THAT WERE HUMBLE AND KIND TO PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION ON THIS PHONE SINCE I ORIGINALLY DID NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT."

404. I wish the phone was 'not found', I was gonna bid on it.  ::) I love the dial bezel, it so recognizable. Much more distinct than the small 'operator' thats on my 1950.

I saw the handset cord when I first saw the listing. I glanced over to the bezel and saw the curved 'operator', which made my heart skip a beat or two. Then I saw that it was an auction, and I pounded my fist on the table! It's times like these I prefer BiNs to auctions! :( Oh well, it had a bid already when I saw it...

$ 248.00

I placed the first bid when I saw the phone on Sunday evening.  I thought a bid might help keep someone from contacting the seller to try and end the auction early.  I have been watching for one of those curved "operator" bezels for quite a while.  One never knows, perhaps I'll bid again.
