In my quest to test phones without a landline I've added this to my kit. Complete with its manual.

But it's in BT livery colours - yellow and blue - breathe Fab, breathe....  ;D

Looks hardly broken in.  Congratulations!

Well it has turned up. In great condition but unfortunately not what I needed. Note to self - do your research better.

Mr F says it is no good to me and without a use I need to sell it on. So I found a use for it (see pic).   ;D

What is it?

Looks like an interface for an audio mic to phone line? Anything in the user manual worth scanning and posting for us to read?

PS: nice axe

It is a line tester for use between exchanges. Pull out the rack, and test. Unfortunately nothing I can do with it here. Good idea about the manual, I will add it below.

ETA: First page of manual.

Our scanner has thrown a huly so I have had to attach the 275A MK4 Manual as 7 photos. I don't seem able to find it online.

It's still a useful tool, it helps us learn what is and isn't a good purchase for our collections...  ;D

Agreed.  :)

I should have listened to my 'Mr ex-BT' advisor who 'told me so'.  ::)

The last Ex-BT person who tried giving me advice (not just on telephony stuff, but other things in general) was full of youknowwhat, was the sort to blame his tools for his incompetence, can't think why they laid him off...  ;D

Oh, that's too bad it's just a door stop.
But as you've already said, live and learn..

If you want to test phones without plugging them into a landline then you could probably use a tele 250

     http://www.britishtelephones.com/t250.htm

Just attach two wires to the 250 and attach the other end to the A & B incoming terminals of a standard BT master socket. Turning the handle on the 250 should make whatever you plug into the master socket ring. You can then answer it and talk both ways using the DC power provided by the batteries inside the 250.
