Here's the Off=topic part of it - nothing to do with phones, but probably my favorite of all songs:

Dennis,

Thanks for the link! I saw several really obvious ones that I not only grew up with, and love, but also have right here, on this very computer, that have not been brought up yet...

I guess only wine gets better with age, eh? ;) And telephones, of course! ;D

Best regards!

Since it's apparently safe to be off-topic, in an off-topic topic:(whew!), ;) May I present this for your consideration: ;)

Any phone lover, of any age, should enjoy these. Especially those of us old enough to remember this day and age of telephony...(and humour). :D

Scads more available on the www. Point and click. Laugh. Repeat. Ad infinitum. ;D

Terrence, those are Classic clips.  I'm old enough to remember when her performance was on the Rowan & Martin Laugh-In show back int he late 60's.  Here's another discussion about those videos from 2011.  There may be more discussions here about her and the "phone company".

Dennis,

Glad you enjoyed them as much as I did.

I, too, remember watching Rowan & Martin Laugh-in, among others, when they were new. ("Verrrrrrrrryyyy Interrrressstink!") ;)

I found another link that has 6 tracks of the original LP, "This is a Recording"; I hope everybody has a good laugh!

Thought it was about time to add another track;

Foreigner - Love on the Telephone:

(Better versions are available elsewhere (especially on vinyl!!), like on Spotify... ;D )

I've rather gotten into Foreigner recently, mostly due to Grand Theft Auto 5 having "Dirty white boy" on one of the in-game radio stations, and just for the heck of it, here's Dirty white boy too:

Young Lust - Pink Floyd (has actual recording of conversation with operator attempting to complete call)
Chantilly Lace - J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson (lyric is mostly one side of a telephone conversation)
Name: A.J.   Location: LAPNCAXG, EDgewood 6

Here is a rare Classic:  Jimmie Dodd (of the Mouseketeers) singing The Telephone Song, circa 1956.

Because the Forum does not allow direct uploads of MP3 files, I have inserted it into this ZIP file.  Simply download the ZIP, extract the MP3, and enjoy!

I read through and a lot of the ones I thought of were already posted, but I came up with a couple...

Kraftwerk's The Telephone Call
Sort of an 'unplugged version of Sylvia's Mother.
Wilson Pickett's 634-5789
The Flying Burrito Brothers' Christine' Tune
(about 2/3 through: 'Her number always turns up in your pocket; Whenever you are looking for a dime;  It's allright to call her...')

The Orlons - Don't Hang Up

Operator by The Grateful Dead.

Operator, can you help me, help me if you please.
Give me the right area code and the number that I need.
My rider left upon the Midnight Flyer,
Singin' like a summer breeze.

I think she's somewhere down South, down about Baton Rouge,
But I just can't remember no number, a number I can use.
Directory don't have it, central done forgot it,
I've gotta find a number to use.

Trying to check out her number, trying to run down her line.
Operator said that's priv'ledged information,
And it ain't no business of mine.
It's floodin' down in Texas, poles are out in Utah,
Gotta find a private line.

She could be hangin' 'round the steel mill,
Working in a house of blue lights.
Riding a getaway bus out of Portland, talking to the night.
I don't know where she's going, I don't care where she's been,
Long as she's doin' it right. Long as she's doin' it right.
