Just came across this Autovon phone. Rare beast, especially NOS & in color!

EDIT: I just noticed something strange, this phone is from the 1980's but the handset is hardwired. I thought all phones were modular long before this one was made. Is that  maybe a requirement for AUTOVON phones?

Some motel phones were hardwired as well. That is the purpose behind the gray mod-size mouse holes fillers. To convert a mod set to hardwire.
