On the back of this phone it is marked 354C. Shouldn't that be a two-line set? Was it at one time, then changed back? And, why did someone make a hole on top of the phone?!I'm confused.

354C is a single line phone with a 5HB or 6A dial.

If you find one of these with 2 lines, that one is extremely rare. The code for a 2-line *might* be 358 if it follows the same numbering as 554s (single line)/558 (2 line with hold).

The hole in the top was made by someone for the station wire. The 554 has a mouse hole for this on the bottom, next to the mouse hole for the handset cord.

Correction: The 2-line sets that resemble 302s are the 4xx series, as pointed out by Telephone Den:

The consensus is that a 2-line wall phone in the style of a 354 did not go into production, even though the circular punch-out for a 2-line key is present on the housing.
