(one thing is for sure, for me, even English is not easy because sometimes certain words I have to take a translator. But I'm not doing so bad. The proof is that I include

PS: LM Ericsson, continue your French classes already you write as someone who has more than 5 years of study)

Let us know your conclusion to what the instructions on the number card say in English once the meeting adjournes!

Inter is usually a short form for "Inter-Urbain", which means "Long Distance".

I was just thinking that both of my French U43s and my PTT24 all have dials from the 1960s-1970, later than the phones.  I wonder if the French PTT changed the dials in all of their phones at some point during that period, possibly for compatibility with newer CO switches.  Doe anyone have any information about that?

Perhaps info on the change to newer dials might be added here if I bump this old thread - to say that I have just purchased an Ivory U43.
I've been hoping to find one for a while.

Nice find! These are friendly phones, aren't they?
I guess the shown dial style was original to the U43. Not saying the dial was never replaced, but it looks the way it should!
Older french phone models, especially in rural areas, often came dial-less and were retrofitted when the region was automated. Even the U43 has a diagram inside showing wiring options for CB manual and LB service with magneto. A magneto could be fitted in the place of the dial. I have never seen one equipped so, though.
France used the same dial style based on a AE design for decades without major changes. Clear finger wheels were introduced relatively early.

Yes ...friendly ...i associate them with
Inspector Clouseau films.

FabPhones showed a Laurent with magneto here....

Edit: More about the U43 on the alain.levasseur site, info on magneto versions and a brown or chestnut version which i see Larry was looking for.

Intriguing to read, on the above page, the allusion to pastel toned models on sale in 1960 at a Parisian department store.
