Is there a way to test the functionality of a subset w/o hooking it up to a phone?  I have one complete 202 w/subset that is assembled and functions that I could use, but it's boxed up and I don't want to go to the trouble of dragging it out of the box, disconnecting it from the subset it's attached to in order to check out 3 other subsets I have on my work bench.

You can also use just a handset:

685A: white handset cord to GN, red (or red and white for a G- handset) to R, black to B. Connect line to C and RR. If you remove the receiver wire from GN, you should not get a loud click.

684A: white handset cord to GN, red to R, black to L2Y. Move black condenser wire to L2Y. Removing the transmitter, dial tone should go away, but you can still hear another phone going off hook or incoming ring current (monitor circuit).

534A: white handset cord to GN, red to R, black to L2Y. Removing xmtr should give you monitor as above.
