If it's any help, I was rooting for the Canadian women's curling team, cos they were more attractive than the UK's....  ;D
The pride of Winnipeg! Specially that Jennifer Jones! 11 straight wins!

OUCH! Did anyone watch the crash this afternoon of Canada's #3  4-man bobsled team? The sled after a very good start, went over on its side, and continued to the bottom of its course riding on the team's helmeted heads. Amazingly, the athletes suffered no major injuries, but the accident ended any hope for a medal win. What was touching was the crowds reaction when they got back up the hill to the crown shouting Kanada, Kanada and cheering them!

What incredible sportsmanship!

Yep! But what amazed me was the amount of support from all nations, and the respect the guys were given! Too often, Bobsled accidents can cause severe injuries, and these four guys got through with nothing major and climbed back up the hill unassisted! Lucky!

At least they weren't doing the skeleton-bob, where the competitors go down the track on a glorified tea tray, one wrong move there and you're most likely dead before you get to the end.... :-\

I will add another:
GO  USA!

It must have been strange for the two hockey teams - many of the players were playing against other athletes on their NHL teams but for different countries. Just shows the professionalism of these guys!

From http://www.olympic.ca , a description and photo of the horrific crash of the Canada 3 bobsled yesterday...

QuoteThe Canada-3 sled piloted byJustin Kripps, pushed by Jesse Lumsden, Cody Sorensen along with brakeman Ben Coakwell was on its second and final run of the night chasing a fast time in a stellar field of quick sleds.

On corner 14, the sled flipped to its side, dragging the four men along the ice at an initial speed well over 100 kilometres per hour, with their helmets providing protection as their heads glided along the icy track.

The sled crossed the finish line in that terrifying position and stopped before the four could get out.

The sight of the Canadians emerging from the sled relatively unscathed was a relief to onlookers. The vast European crowd broke into applause with shouts of "Canada" from the railings and stands.

I think it is fair to say we thank the world for their concern following the accident, and amazingly, its crew is in good condition. I wanted to post this photo, as it is much better than the screen grab I was able to post yesterday.

Yes, Bill. What a wonderful game! The poor swedes looked pretty frustrated during the medal ceremony! That was some hockey! 3-0 for Canada!

I read this just after the game ended (for me, watching a couple of hours behind on the PVR) and the medal ceremony was getting started. You couldn't have said anything more accurate than that. Hopefully they will come to terms with having won the silver medal in hockey and celebrate soon as well. No small accomplishment!

The Stat for Canada that stuck in my mind is: SIX games, THREE goals against & SEVENTEEN goals for.

And, the final chart if medals:

That is what got to me. There is so much pressure to come in first. But the three medal wining teams are all the best in the world. They all played so well for their countries, and should all be proud.

It was all kind of sad seeing them looking so dissappointed, but, as you said, I am sure they will come to terms with it and be proud of their accomplishments!

Now, I need a Russian Olympic phone. Wouldn't even mind if it came with one collapsed ring (like the ring in the opening ceremonies which didn't expand as planned)! :)

I may be wrong on this but it seems the Russians won whatever, thanks to help from a South Korean skater, the Canadians came in second and the Americans tied with Norway for 3rd, right? I'm just not up on Common Core math these days so I'm not sure, but I think that's right. All I know for sure is that MagicMo is the big winner this month.

I don't know how many of you are watching/have watched the closing ceremonies, but they are just incredible. At one point, a huge circus tent was raised in less than a minute, with circus acts surrounding, celebrating Russia's rich circus heritage, then later incredible plush anamitronic figures snuffing out the Olympic flame (as the flame went out, the bear shed a giant tear), then the most incredible display of fireworks. It was absolutely incredible. Kudos to the Russian Federation for an astounding closing ceremonies.  I have to admit, I think it eclipsed the athletes! It was a show to remember!

That was so ironic as compared to the Vancouver opening ceremonies where there was an almost identical glitch with a duplicate of the actual Cauldron (which was and still is outside) which was to come up out of the floor within BC Place during the ceremonies. One of the arms got stuck and didn't raise out of the floor.

At the end Wayne Gretzky rode the back of a truck with the flame from BC Pace down to the harbour side where the real cauldron is and lit the torch. It was absolutely pouring rain out at the time. All stuck forever in my memory now.

During these Olympics the Vancouver 2010 Cauldron has been lit for a couple of hours each time that Canada won a gold medal. My daughter and her husband live in downtown Vancouver blocks from the cauldron so I sent them down there to take pictures just an hour ago. ( Sorry the picture is so big...if a moderator wants to downsize it for me, please do) Here she is:
