I picked this up today and hooked it up and it works. The only issue is it won't ring. Sorry but I'm new to this, what is the most common problem when it won't ring?

Make sure it has a ringer in it to begin with.  If it does, it could be disconnected or simply wired up wrong.  Find a wiring diagram to help you wire it properly.

It has a ringer and the wiring looks to be all original.

Post a picture of the insides - it could be a frequency ringer.

Please provide photos of the ringer and how it's connected. One of the ringer wires may be connected to Ground, which is a simple fix.

However, many of these have harmonic ringers that were designed to respond to only one frequency.

Let me know if this isn't good enough

That's a frequency ringer and probably won't work.  There should be a part # or a freq. # stamped on the ringer somewhere - maybe on the bar between the coils.  You will more than likely need to replace the ringer.

Changed out the ringer and now it works perfectly.
Thank you. :)
