Can anybody tell me what model this is?

It is a Type 83 Compact Telephone.
The ringer box is a Type 32, I believe, at least that is what a #83 phone is supposed to use.

The predecessor was the Type 43 Monophone of the 1940s, and the successor I think was the 183 in the 1960s.

Here is what another seller wrongly believes is a Model 83:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/301550064892
but his is actually a Model 43.

Thank you, that does appear to be what it is. Strange there are no markings inside or out.

Strange there are no markings inside or out.

It looks like they may have been painted over.
