The bullet transmitters were on the very early E handsets, and the smooth handsets were also early.

I don't know if the bullet transmitter and the smooth handle were always matched, however.  Larry Wolff in "Desk Telephones of the Bell System" dedicates no less than 5 pages of diagrams, photos, and discussion to the ever changing E handset during its rather short life.  To be the most authentic,  You would be safest to match the smooth handle with smooth receiver and transmitter caps and with the barrier button 395B (bullet) transmitter.  As if the authenticity police would come in the night and take you from your home and flog you!   :o

I dunno about the Handsets,  but I can give a definitive answer to the Question: "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

It's often given as an example of a paradox or answerless question but they are quite wrong.

The Egg came first of course, because dinosaurs laid eggs eons before the chicken was created.
