I think he's pulling our collective legs about "restoring" phones.  In reality he has a time machine and simply sets the dial to whatever year phone he wants, picks it up at the factory right after they box it up, and bips back into our time.   ;)

I can't believe how shiny you got that bakelite.  What a great phone!

That's one of my favorite fantasies, McHeath!  Except it usually involves '50s car dealerships or Microsoft stock.

As you all know, bakelite has a bit more of a matte finish than later plastics.  What really made the difference was the carnauba wax, believe it or not.  The one I used is called E-Z Wax from the Auto Wax Company in Dallas:

It isn't abrasive at all.  I think Mother's makes something similar.
