Found this dial card assembly in an old box of junk.  Should I put it on the 2AA or a 2AE dial?

Up to you, but it would originally have been on a non-dial rural phone--line #14, 5 rings.
Even on dial phones with 2AE dials, the letters were only for calling non-dial party lines.

I 'll see if it's perforated and use it on a candlestick with a dial card holder.

Isn't that a local battery subset?  Maybe 1295(whatever suffix)

6AG? ringer 1000 ohms
21D condenser
and what coil ?  13?

interesting it has a tube.

Local battery would have a generator.
It's a 295A that has been modified for polarized ringing--4 party selective or 8 party semi-selective. Recoded 295AT because of the tube.

Well, not necessarily, a 1295AA (I just looked it up) is a local battery central battery signaling set.
But I think you are right about it being reworked as a 295AT.

This diagram shows a 295S or T subset. It does not have a generator but does have terminals for connecting a battery. I thought it was  used for Local Battery Talk, Common Battery Signaling, but have not been able to confirm that.

I figured I would post a modified picture of the guts here for the sake of documenting this old piece of junk treasured relic of our telecommunications past:

Looks like they used "New Style Markings" among other things.

Dissecting the wiring:

3 wire line connects to L1, L2 and G
2 wire line connects L1 and G to local batteries?

Ringer 500/500 Wires:
Red>L2
Black>B

Tube:
Beige (Red???) > L1
Beige (Yellow???) > L2
Black >B

No. 20 Induction Coil
1>L1
2>R
3>Condenser (lower)
4>GN

21-D Condenser
upper wire >L2
lower wire >3 and C

I am not certain of anything-there is a 3-wire line attached to L1, L2, and G, and a 2-wire line connected to L1 and L2.  I was just going by the diagram which it seems to match.

Tube is used for 4-party selective party lines. I haven't seen any reference to tubes used with magneto stations. Magneto statons used polarized ringers wihtout capacitors, tubes or relays.

Well, tubes also didn't exist when this subset was originally manufactured. So it is really hard to tell now what was connected when inside the unit.

If primary of induction coil (1 and 2) is connected to L1 and L2, this shorts out the line.
