Does anyone know if there's a way to eliminate light shining through the White plastic repro caps? Primer?

Eric's suggestion is great. Before trying it, you might try painting the inside gloss white and see if that helps. Western painted the original caps white inside, to increase light reflection onto the dial.

They also painted the inside of the Bedroom sets (Princess prototypes) to minimize light transmission through the housing.
