Google Earth - WE Indianapolis and Hawthorne Works

If you enter "2525 Shadeland Avenue Indianapolis IN USA" into the Google Earth app, you will be transported to the old Western Electric Indianapolis Works facility.  Used by various organizations today, it still retains much of its former glory, at least from a distance......   Most WE consumer telephones were made here from it's opening in 1948 until closure in 1986.   I would have LOVED a plant tour back the 50's........

The Google Earth app lets you "fly around" and view things from all angles and distances, which is pretty cool - here's a view of the plant.

Same thing for Hawthorne Works in Cicero.  Enter "22nd Street and Cicero Ave Cicero IL USA".  Unfortunately, only one tower (center-top of image below) is left of the once-massive facility.  The rest is shopping centers.....
