One of the clubs has a PDF of various Kellogg logos, including Masterphone logos.  They're in one of the libraries, but as I recall, the quality isn't all that good.  I'll see if I can't find it, though.

Oh wow, thanks for the logo, Bingster.  The one I was working with was very blurry and I was going to use MS Paint to sharpen it, but this one is so much better.

And thanks to everyone else who commented!

The logo is great, but I need a little more practice at centering the holes just right.  Here is trial #1

If I were going to paint a bakelite phone, I would spray on two or three loight coats in about 10 minutes or so, then place the body in an oven set at 150 degrees for about 1-1/2 hours. You will get a smooth, VERY shinny finish.
Don't put on too heavy a coat, just a light coat, then about 5 minutes later another light coat.
Don't do this with plastic for the obviuos reasons.
The oven will also bake the paint making it harder. Air dry just does not get all the oils and solvents out of the paint. Have you ever noticed that arfter paint dries it sometimes still feels sticky, and if you handle it, you can actually leave finger prints on it. After I bake my paint, I immediately dip it in COLD water.

I know I am new here, but I have done a little experimenting with painting a couple of phones. One of the things I have discovered is the model paints (testors, tamiya, ect.) in the spray can form are of higher quality then the standard rustoleum or krylon paints. I know they are in little cans and cost more but the finish seems to be better. I am not sure if it is the paint itself or the spray tip. And the paint is designed for models so it is ok on plastic.

As to the Leich HS and subset.....  Kellogg did not make sets for any other telephone manufacturer for them to add components to.  Having said that probably what has happened here is this set was "created" from parts at a telco shop, taking available parts from other phones and creating a working telephone set.  This was very common during WW2 when new phones were not available to telco's.   Sorry that you painted it, Bakelite will buff out to a "factory shine" in just a few minutes on a buffer.    Kellogg Mike

Mike:

It is great to have you here!

I am a fan of your website, and I think you will be a wonderful contributor here.  Thanks for your response.

I was wondering about the handset and the subset.  An interesting combo, and who knows how it originated, or even where.

My long suit is definitely not in the outward restoration of the finish on phones.

What's a reasonable price for a 900? I bid on a nice one with no cracks tonight that was not identified (best ones to find because no one notices them). It went for a good price, I think, but I passed because price with shipping would have gone over $70. I'm kind of a cheapskate.

There is a "Buy it Now" that was just listed for $23. It looks decent.
