Idea for new Picture Gallery

Just mulling this one over. Might be a good idea, or might not. Or maybe this exists but I've missed it. Or maybe it's not doable from a maintenance point of view:

Specific model picture gallery threads where each of us could add a photo of a phone from our collection. The model of phone would be in the subject title.

For example:

Picture Gallery: 554
Picture Gallery: 202
(etc etc)

We could add up to three photos of different phones in any of our replies to the thread. With little or no text. Each thread covers only the model as per the thread title. I know some of you have several of the same model, so for those that might want to list several maybe make your photos into a compilation (eg four phones, one pic). This would be just to help stop one reply scrolling too long.

The reason is I'm thinking it might be nice, and informative, to see several phones of the same model and compare them side by side - warts and all - in all their variations (original or not, pristine or not, inc adapted/painted/stripped/refurbs or dated etc). It would build a pretty good picture library all under one specific model heading.

Hope this all makes some sense. The idea probably needs tweaking.
What do you think?

Not sure if something that specific exists here. I know there are threads that act as a sort of storage space for member photos, but how its organized is solely up to the individual. I like the idea for one. I think it would be interesting to see the variety among collections even between the same model of phone. Only down side is it would take a bit to work the bugs out and find a way to manage the space needed to house it all.

Over the years, we have had some exceptional topics that have focused on a particular model or feature and have attracted posts from lots of members.

Challenges have included keeping posts on topic and organizing the topics so they can be found in the future for reference or additions. It's easy to forget they exist and start a new similar topic.

Making them easier to find and encouraging new similar topics is a superb goal.

Some of my personal favorites have focused on phone color or material. Here are a few examples, including a few by model. We could start by collecting some of the best existing topics.

Quite some time ago something similar to this is the direction we were moving towards with the forum. We were slowly rearranging it into a phone make and model layout rather than the way it started out with the oldest boards such as a General Discussion, flea Market / Yard Sale Finds, Collector's Corner etc. The newer boards that were added included Telephone Signs, Decorator Phones, Payphones, Candlesticks, Wooden Phones etc. The intent was to continue with boards covering models phones associated with the 1920-1984 years.

Once we had all these make/models covered the boards with be further sub divided to devote areas more specifically to each model and we had hoped to create picture areas to be used as examples if each and to help identify models. But the changes and rearrangements slowed down and never really were completed. I had hoped to get back at it eventually and my cohort Dave has had to back off from the forum considerably because of health problems. John came in to help out but has substantially burned himself out fighting battles with those that wanted CRPF to be like most other web based forums where anything goes and the experience isn't always fun for everyone.

Maybe we will get back to reorganizing or maybe we will try to just create the make/model picture area which can be used in the future in conjunction with boards built for the remaining make/models. Will see what happens going forward.

You're welcome, Benny.

That reminds me that I started keeping links to topics like these as browser bookmarks, so I could find them quickly in the future.

I have a folder called Forum Links with subfolders by topic of interest. It helps a little, but I haven't spent a lot of time filling it out and organizing the links. It has some potential.

I do the same with links to my site for the pages I use often for reference.

Agreed thanks Paul, those were nice. I was part of a forum that used the basics of this site. It would get quite cluttered with a plethora of postings that lost track of the original, and once and a while the admin or mods would "clean house". Move some things, deleting others.
This is an awesome place to discuss and find information on just about any phone. But some things are hard to find. Like the post's that Paul reminded us of.
But what gets moved or the axe?
