Am familiar with a couple of the Western Electric F handset variations, such as the "W" for non-Bell System applications.

Ran across an F4 handset on an auction -- what is the F4, and was there a specific application when it was used as opposed to the F1?

This is what Paul Fassbender says on his website about the F4:

"With G handset receiver element (U1 receiver and F1 or T1 transmitter) and 3-wire cord.  For applications on long loops."

Kenny,
Is your handset a "G" with "F" elements,
or a "F" with "G" Elements?

The made both.
