My first thought was "Why would a subset have an amphenol connector?". I had to look at that one. The other pictures revealed why it had the cord but begged the question, Why was it built? Looks like somebody put some time & effort into it though.

a key phone in an old box...nice mod.
wonder what the handset looked like? and the hook??? ???
That would be a party crasher...

Key2871

Well that's different. But the point, eludes me.

I was wondering about the hookswitch also. I see nowhere it might have been located. The handset cord was obviously cut. It could have been anything I guess, G, F, who knows? The other thing is the ringer is a dummy also, I wonder if there is a ringer under the cover? Lots of questions!

no hookswitch because it would be wired to an A lead modified set.You could do this either a 202 or 302

Equivalent to the 6041 Key....except for the added dial.

Would need 4 pairs to tel set:
Tip, ring
A, A1
One pair from dial shunt contacts to receiver in set
One pair for common audible ringer in set

Using a 202 or 302, you would have to rob one pair of hookswitch springs (GN/W or green/brown-blue) to repurpose as A/A1. 304 has extra contacts.

Sheesh, Poplar1, you just don't know anything about those phones, do you. LOL
I learned more about that type of setup, from those few words, than from the last book I read.
What a library of knowledge... Thank you!!!!!

Key2871

So some one made this up so they could use line control in a 304?
I don't know about those sets, I never made it past 302's. I wanted to get other sets like a 400 but never did.
And the dial was in place because the set was manual, and would this be used on a 1A, or 1A2.
I like the knowledge. Sorry if I'm being a pest.

1A1 and 1A2 sets are wired the same. They can also be reconfigured for 1A Key.
Examples: 564, 565, 2564, 2565, 2830, 2851, 2852, 464GG tel. sets (Any 44x or 46x set ending in E or G.) Separately mounted keys: 6040, 6041, 6050.

1A sets are wired differently and lack the extra pair of hookswitch contacts needed for 1A1 or 1A2.
Examples: 440EC. (Any 44x or 46x set ending in A or C.) Separately mounted keys: 6021 et al.

You can transplant a 6-conductor hookswitch from a 304 into a 302. Or add extra contacts on the right side in a 202 base.

How would you connect a WE 20-AL, which has only 3 contacts on the hookswitch, all 3 of which connect together when going off-hook?

Key2871

Sorry, I meant 1A not 1A1. Because I knew the two were different configurations.
