I want to Fire AT&T!
I still play around and restore old dial telephone sets like AE and WE sets. Is there some kind of device that I can check out a dial to see if it dials the correct number? I am paying the AT&T gangsters $67.00 a month for POTS.
I have a nice WE ring generator so testing bells aren't any problem.

TelePlay

The Panasonic 616 or 308 are favored by many. Lot to read about them in this board.

Or BK Precision 1045 or 1050 Telephone Testers on the Telephone Tools Board:

I have both a BK Precision 1045 and a Panasonic 616. Both do great for basic functionality testing. I did have a phone short out a line on my 616, so be careful of you go that route. Also, the black/yellow pair on the 616 is for the high level functions and programming. You have to be careful with anything that may use that pair for lighting (Princess for example) or a second line. I got my 1045 for less than $50. I feel much safer using it on unknown phones, plus you can check touch tone and pulse with the readout, and you can reverse polarity easily.

A 1045 is a great tester, quick and easy. The 616 is a great toy. it can also be used for testing. The best combination is at least 1 of each. Chances are you can get 1 of each for less than $200.00 delivered.
