Anyone had any experience with alternate microphone/transmitter types employed in place of the T1 in WE handsets/phones?  They will inevitable get harder to find and eventually impossible, I would guess.

I have an electronic replacement for a T1 and it works well, the only issue was needing to bend the contacts out a bit inside the transmitter cup to make good contact, not really sure where to get them worldwide, but this website sells them:

They only call them a "21A" as that model refers to the GPO replacement for the carbon granule No. 16A transmitters, but it infact just a drop-in replacement for a T1 transmitter... :)

Not sure which phone it's in at the moment (might be in the Cortelco 2554), but initially I used it in my WE500DM, and kept the original transmitter secured to the base of the phone with a piece of wire to keep it all together:

There were tens if not hundreds of millions of T1 transmitters made, so I doubt that they will become impossible to find any time soon.

The "21A" transmitters look interesting.  I have at least a few GPO transmitters which sound terrible, so I wonder if this might be a solution to allow me to use my 300 series without the people at the other end complaining about the sound quality.  Can someone here provide a north American supplier link?

As far as I know, Audiosears still makes T1 transmitters. Bought them 100 at a time while at COT.They also sold elictrit replacements.

Yeah, you can fit a proper 21A into a 200 or 300 series handset I believe, but you have to remove the rear casing to do so, this seller here offers a "modern" 21A, which once again is based on something that would sit happily inside a G-type handset:

As for in-US sources, that I don't know unfortunately... :-\
