I saw this phone on ebay today and can't tell for the life of me what color it is. I don't think its black because it sold for a pretty penny. Or is it just a really nice black one?

That one is definitely Maroon or Walnut. AE's black Bakelite is very hard to confuse from any other color. Mahogany is probably the easiest of the three 'brown' colors (Mahogany, Walnut, and Maroon) because it's mottled. It's also very unlikely that a black 1A would have all chrome trim, including the blank.

Also, notice the color difference between the base and rubber ring below it.

My vote is for walnut. Pictures below. I cropped and re-saved them.

You were away for awhile. The security thing has been going on for a while now. Here is more info about it:

And here is a link to another "black" AE phone picture on eBay as discussed in the "Best Pictures of an eBay Auction item" topic:

Doing the last two auction contests, I noticed that the forum software has been more sensitive within the past week or so than it has been in the past several months. Don't know why. Just know that every image I created by saving, cropping in Paint and resaving had to be opened in my old image software, resized slightly, resaved and then they would upload. So, you're not the only one seeing this problem, if that helps. Resizing and resaving with a new title usually works, helps deal with the security flag issue.
