I didn't know of them either until I found that above linked site. Reading the review of the seed at the bottom of the page, it seems old people grew these decades ago and didn't know they were still available today. I'm used to seeing acres of peas grown on the ground for canning purposes so these were a delightful surprise to me also. I might just try planting some next year.
There is no limit to the new things I learn about on this forum! ;)

Nob & tube was even old when I was a kid. some here may not know what it is :) :)

Well, I do know that peas grow in a pod that is attached to a vine. My theory is that if the vine grew up a telephone pole, then that would make them telephone peas. That is what I think telephone peas are.
I grew some this year, but I think I planted them too late (July 30th), no pods yet.

I figured that was the problem. I was going to wait until next spring, but tried it anyway. Now the rain has beaten down the plants.
Yes, we had pretty much forgotten what rain was here in the north west this summer but.....it's all coming back to me now!

I came across an article online that said that they don't produce in containers more than 8" deep. They'll grow, but just won't produce any pea pods. I planted mine in a standard 12" cedar container. I thought I bookmarked the article, but now I can't find it.
