I have owned this for years and have no idea what is it. Looks like it screwed to a wall. Bakelite button on the Glass front with a Bulldog MP screwed into the glass as well. WE headset, but I do not see any WE markings on it. Case is metal. ...Doug

Doug,

Don't know what the phone might be but the metal housing sure looks like one of those Bud Boxes sold by Radio Shack back in the 50s and 60s for project. They had a great heavy grey hammered enamel and were quite thick. Came with sheet metal screws to hold them together. Long time since those have been around. Found this NOS box on eBay. Not quite the same but similar.

Looks very similar.....  Yours has a plug in the right side where the crank is on this one....  Must be legit (or some kind of kit?) and not a home brew....

It could of been the product of one of the telephone rebuilding companies. A lot of them cobbled together  their own intercom and phones to sell to the public. Phoneco and OPW do it now.

Just a thought,

I have seen similar railroad sets that had highly insulated parts for waystation use on open wire circuits
