Just about to call it a night when I saw this candlestick listed and starting at $9.99 in a 7 day auction. Within the first two hours, it captured 8 bids and was up to $17.49. This will be an interesting auction. Better pictures would help.

The seller listed it as a "Collectible Rare Candlestick Phone" with the item condition as "Used" and claims it is an  "Early 1900's rare candlestick phone. This phone is in almost perfect condition for it's age. Chrome base. The cord is worn in a few spots. See photo. No nicks or dents. Measures appx. 10" tall. This phone was purchased many years ago from Morphy's Auction House and is a great addition to any collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We appreciate you taking a look at this very special piece." I did take the liberty to change the ALL CAPS text of the listing to a more readable, standard format.

Edit: On Sep-03-13 at 08:35:23 PDT, seller added the following information: century split shaft candlestick phone.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171118348722

The seller did not put high resolution photos in the listing so the exact makeup of the phone is a bit unclear, but it does appear to be a tapered (possibly split) shaft candlestick with the manufacturer unknown (not stated). Keep in mind that based on the small, low resolution listing photos, that description of the phone is just a guess on my part. If you have the time, you can find over 100 candlesticks from that time period at the ->Old Telephones<- website.

So, what will the 99th phone in our Auction Contest section end up selling for when the bidding ends on the evening of September 9th?

As always, here's another chance to either move up a rung or to get onto the Contest Standings list, you have to play to win! New members on the forum are always very welcome to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. If anyone wants to see the phones that have been in past Auction Contests, click -> HERE <-.

It is nice shape from the looks of it, but poorly described.  $400.

There's something wrong with the bolt on the perch - should be flush.  Hope the entire perch hasn't been drilled out for that bolt.

Dave,

I think you are right. Fuzzy pictures early in the morning so I missed that. It seems that this is the way the perch should be and from what I can see, it looks like a modern nut on the perch of the eBay photo.

This perch photo is from a 1902 - Century Telephone Construction Co. #85 split shaft Desk Set. This stick may or not be the same as the phone for sale in the eBay auction but to me, it is very close to what I see in those low resolution eBay photos.

Edit: After I posted this comment, I noticed the seller added the following to his listing.
