New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.
Listed about 2 days ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve ( with thanks to david@london for the tip ) and starting at $9.99 is a 1956 WE Rose Beige dial bezel on a beige 500 housing (thanks to opinions provided in replies to this contest and the sharp eye of LarryInMichigan) with original line cord, coiled handset cord and open center finger wheel. The seller provided limited external pictures. Since being listed, the phone received 2 bids from 2 buyers increasing the price to $10.49 but with 18 watchers. So, the really big question is can wds or Sargeguy break their tie or can some other member best guess what this phone will sell for when the auction ends and move up a rung on the Contest Standing ladder. Time will tell.
NOTE: We will use a $3 gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $3 away from prior guesses for this contest. All guesses, original and a single allowed revised guess if needed, must be submitted at least 24 hours before the auction ends.
The seller listed it as a "Vintage Western Electric 500 C/D Rotary Dial Bell Phone - BEIGE - 7-56 (1956)" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying simply "Vintage Western Electric 500 C/D Rotary Dial Bell Phone - BEIGE - 7-56 (1956) -- Phone looks new. -- Cord has some dirt from storage"

That phone looks to me to be light beige with a rose beige dial bezel. The bezel must be worth something to a collector who is missing one, but the rest of the phone isn't especially valuable.
Larry
Larry -
you have super-perceptive vision.
that would explain the 60 stamp on the base .......and the handset cord being the exact same shade as the body - not faded, as is usual.
hard to tell colours in ebay photos, i had not noticed it at all.
based on that, a guess is impossible, but i'll say $80.
I agree with LarryInMichigan.
Chuck
Thanks for catching that.
I've updated the contest set up and reduced the guess gap to $3 to reflect that possible fact.
And, by the way once again, if anyone is interested in taking over the Auction Contest board starting with contest 301, send me a PM. Let's talk . . .

Note that the seller has some really negative feedback.

And the winner of Auction Contest #296 is TelePlay, who with the 14th and last entry into the contest offered the winning guess of $107.00. That guess gave him his twenty second auction contest win moving him up one rung in the Contest Standings.
The phone was listed at $9.99 and rose steadily to about $75 during the first 6 and a half days of the auction. It increased to just over $100 with a bit more than an hour to go. At the end, a***n ( 2773 ), with his first and only bid of the auction, put in a snipe with 4 seconds to go to take the phone home for $108.67. The auction saw 7 bidders placing 10 bids.

Thanks again to all who played. As always, there is only one way to get on the winner's board or move up a rung - you have to play to win.
