Hello everyone!  I'm new here.. but have loved rotary phones for years.

I just got a Western Electric 302... and it works great.  My only problem is that the ringer is extremely LOUD.  It could double as a fire alarm.  Is there any way to lower the ringer volume on a 302?

Thanks! :)

Bingles,

You can loosen the screws holding the gongs and rotate the gongs to the positions which provide the optimal sound.  Or you can do like I have done with some phones and add a resistor in series with the ringer to reduce the amount of current and thus the force with which the clapper strikes the gongs.
